Who Am I and What Do We Do Here?
Swear-apy (noun)
-Treatment intended to relieve, heal, and process life circumstances that aligns with the experience. “Swear-apy let's me say what I need to say, how I need to say it.”
-The treatment of mental conditions by verbal communication and interaction that include explitives and profanities. “Swear-apy helps clients emotionally process their experience while they recall and share.”
In short, I do therapy and say “fuck” a lot while doing it. Normally, going to a bio page feels like we get a cookie-cutter veneer AND also feels necessary to get to know who you’re going see when it comes to something as personal as finding a therapist that will be a good fit. These typically start with something like… “I practice counseling from an Adlerian perspective, meaning that my role in a client's treatment is to help clients explore and understand how they ‘fit’ in the context of their life, then take that understanding to achieve change, growth, and fulfillment. This perspective allows me to tailor my approach and utilize interventions from various modalities to best suit you, your needs, as well as what you want to get from therapy. I also frequently employ components of interpersonal therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.” So, details of how I do therapy… helpful and accurate, but also doesn’t really say who I am…
Then, there’s the part where the bio talks about how this will pertain to you… “My goal, as your counselor, is to provide a space conducive for you to achieve resolution with the concerns that brought you here and support you as you find insight, growth, and empowerment as you move forward.” It’s also important to know that I am a real person who operates from lived experience and not just my education and training. What you get from me is support, nonjudgement, psychoeducation, guidance, challenge when necessary, and all sprinkled with swearing!! But more importantly, you get realness.
